Copyright a PowerPoint?

Is it possible to copyright, patent, or trademark ideas on a PowerPoint? I created an entire social network design and layout on a PowerPoint and I’m in the process of trying to protect my ideas and features of the website. I need to ensure that no one can take credit for my ideas when I present before the executive board of Angel Investors to receive startup funds. How do I go about getting my ideas fully protected? Thank you.

Copyright registration does not protect ideas, because it is hard to proove where the “idea” originated from. You should make sure that your entire social network design and layout are done in a written document (ie portfolio).

When I have had ideas that I have presented at work that I have concern of being taken, I have also emailed the document to several people, to include my manager… thus having a record of the date and that the ideas were submitted by me. In the body of the email I say “Here is my plan”. People are less likely to take ideas when you put it out there already as the ideas being yours.
